Welcome to ZeZoo a website about Animals

Me and my son

My name is Eigil Høyrup and I am the founder of ZeZoo. I have a college degree in Multimedia design and a bachelor’s degree in medieval archaeology. I grew up in the country and my interest for animals began at an early age.

When I was about two, my parents (apart form the chickens we already had) bought a goat to have on the lawn for milk. As soon as I could walk I went with the nursery home to feed the horses in a nearby stable, and at times, I spend schooldays off on a local farm among cows and kittens. Up through the years the interest in all living beings has stayed.

I got the idea to develop this website because I now live in the city and I am the father of a little boy who will not be able to have the same relation to animals around him on a daily basis. I wanted a platform where I could give him the knowledge and interest in where our food comes from and the wildlife that is part of the world. At the same time the thought of sharing the information I found with everyone on a website really appealed to me.

ZeZoo is for everyone who’s interested in animals, wild or domestic. It can be used by school children for writing assignments and knowledge seeking, by parents teaching their kids or people just looking for facts and information about animals or a little fun.

ZeZoo is an independent website and there are no interest groups behind the information available on the site.

On an ethical level I believe that it is okay to eat meat and dairy products but that we as people need to learn to be better at choosing quality rather than quantity. For one there is the health aspect to it and two we need to burden our environment less than we do at present.

I strongly believe that biological food production is a step in the right direction. We need to make sure that the animals in our custody live under the best possible conditions, that our food is not filled with pesticides and medicine traces and that our rivers and oceans are not laden with fertilizer. With all this in mind I still feel good wearing a leather jacket and enjoy a limited amount of meat once or twice a week.
